Billing Software

Down sizing and cut backs seem to be the main themes in the news these days when it comes to all size businesses. This means that fewer employees are left to complete essential work that every company has. One of the products that is available to help with this trend is billing software. No matter what size a business is or what it function is there are always bills that need processing. The use of billing software has many functions. There are a variety of programs to choose from so there is a match for every company.

Billing software can be used for medical billing. This includes billing patients directly or sending claims into the insurance companies or both, depending on the situation. There is also billing software for professionals. This can be used in a law firm to track time that is billed to specific clients or companies. The software is also capable of tracking expenses that are incurred by the attorney as a result of their work.

The billing software can also be used by companies that sell merchandise. The programs can be set up to send as well as track invoices so that they can be included for specific time periods. The billing software is perfect for the company that has routine expenditures in that it can produce electronic timed based bills for those purchases that are automatic and recurring.

The billing software can manage claims that are made by suppliers as well as individual customers. Employee time slips can be processed also. This will include automatic payroll deductions. Some companies have the employee electronically enter their timesheets and then the billing software generates their pay. Once the salary or hourly wage is set into the program the software will keep track of each employees account.

There are also bill on line programs that do not require software for companies that have routine expenses each month without a great deal of variation. The on line billing is quick and easy to follow.

There are so many different factors in the make up of each company based on size, number of employees and the function of the company whether they manufacture products, distribute products or deal with professionals that generate business. Because of the many variables that are involved with each business the billing software programs need to just as varied. Three are free directories available that match the different billing software programs with the needs of companies. By searching through the directory there is a strong possibility that you will find the right billing software for your company. The software will be a great assistant to your employees in getting bills out in a timely and accurate manner.

Antispam Software

Are you tired of sorting through junk emails every time you open your in box? I know I was. It seemed to take me forever to check my messages because half of them were spam. Some of the junk that I was receiving was quite offensive. I was afraid my daughter would open the family email before me and get propositioned in our own home! With the anitspam software I installed I no longer have to worry about that. The antispam software was easy to install also.

Junk mail and spam not only clutter your in box but they can also bring viruses that can slow your computer down or put it out of commission completely. A computer is a large investment and needs to have this protection. With the antispam software I can surf the net freely without being concerned that someone is going to invade my home with trashy emails, viruses or other junk mail. I can also rest easy knowing that I am not going to be faced with costly repairs. The investment in the antispam software is very minor to the cost and inconvenience of having the computer serviced.

I am not very sophisticated when it comes to the workings of the computer. I know how to turn it on, check my emails, surf the web and write a letter or two, but ask me technical questions and you are not going to get an answer! So for me to say that antispam software is easy to install, you know you will be able to do it. This time I did not even have to ask my daughter for help, which is good because it was after her 8:00 bedtime. Now that the antispam software is in place I do not have to worry about viruses slowing down the computer. There are filters that block not only spam but the junk mail.

I know that the government has passed the can-spam laws, but that does not seem to stop the junk mail. When I read in the news that a 13 year old boy was able to hack in and infest millions of dollars worth of computer systems I know that I made a good investment in getting my antispam software. I am more at risk for junk mail and viruses because of not having a background in computers. The peace of mind that the antispam software brings me allows me to enjoy my web surfing knowing my family and computer are protected from spam and viruses. Get you own antispam software today and have peace of mind knowing that you are lowering the chances of having a virus invade your computer. It also saves you time because you will no longer have to weed through the junk mail to get to the mail you really want to read. Now going to my in box is less frustrating and time consuming.

Bookkeeping Programs

So my office recently decided to update its bookkeeping programs which put me, as the office manager, knee deep in a stew of miserable bureaucracy. We had tried a number of bookkeeping programs in the past few years, but had eventually settled on Quickbooks, which I didn't like much, but didn't hate much either, and had gotten thoroughly used to in the last few years. I don't know what idiot decided that wee needed to uproot everything for new bookkeeping programs, but whoever it was was very far away from the actual work which had to get done in the office.

First of all, as I said, there was nothing wrong with the bookkeeping program we'd been using all along, and to set up a new one was a hassle, the likes of which have never been seen in that office before. Everything had to be recoded to the new bookkeeping programs. Originally, the boss had hired his supposed computer whiz of a son to write a macro which would convert all of the files from the old bookkeeping programs to the new ones, but that project failed miserably, as everything that the boss gets his family to do fails miserably. In addition to that, there was no interoperability between the Quickbooks and the new bookkeeping programs, which was some kind of general public access thing made by Linux nerds in their spare time – completely stable and well coded, but refusing to make any concessions to user friendliness.

So, before I could even begin to re-enter the old bookkeeping programs data (and of course, it all fell to me), I had to learn how to interact with this completely graphics free, all text interface. Yeah, I know, more stable, quicker to use, blah blah blah. The point is, it's no fun and it takes ten times as long to learn. Even now that I've got it, I'd rather use one of the bookkeeping programs where I can just click on things and not worry about all of the keyboard shortcuts. I mean, this is a large part of my work environment – I stare at it all day, I navigate it and enter data in it – shouldn't it be something that I find pleasant to work with and pleasant to interact with? But no one considers that. If it is free, quick, and takes up less hard drive space, they'll jump all over it, without giving any consideration to those who have to use it.

Rosetta Stone Software

Rosetta Stone is a rather remarkable program of interactive software and online resources to help you learn just about any new language you’d ever want to learn.

You’ve probably seen the advertisements for Rosetta Stone somewhere. There seem to be Rosetta Stone ads in just about every magazine on the planet right now. I caught my first one several months ago in the American Airlines magazine during a flight back east, and I’ve since seen them popping up everywhere. When it became a certainty that I would be traveling to Spain in a handful of months, I decided I’d take the opportunity to finally learn Spanish, and guess which program I bought?

Whoever said advertising doesn’t work was clearly not very bright. I’m a pretty finicky consumer most of the time, and the high price tag on the Rosetta Stone package was a little daunting, but they sold me with their ads. ‘Fastest way to learn a language, guaranteed’ is a pretty priceless slogan.

The great thing about Rosetta Stone is they actually do live up to that guarantee, and you can return the program within 6 months for a full refund, no questions asked. However, I’m not returning anything. Even though I feel I could easily learn all the Spanish I’d ever want in 6 months with their program and send it back, I’m finding the Rosetta Stone program to be extremely effective and strangely a lot of fun. Really, it’s a small price to pay to learn a new language and have the resources on hand to make sure you don’t forget it.

I remember taking Spanish in high school and just hating it. Long charts and memorization exercises, sitting there trying to remember when to conjugate and how, it seemed like such a waste of time because I never had any measurable progress. I spent 3 years taking Spanish in high school and never really learned more than how to say ‘where is the library?’ and ‘have you seen Juan?’. I’ve had Rosetta Stone for two weeks and already I feel like I’ve learned more than I did in all my high school classes combined.

Rosetta Stone takes a different and a less painful approach, combing imagery with text and orally spoken words to help you form connections without memorizing or translating anything. If you’ve ever taken a language class, it’ll seem a little strange at first, but it’s very intuitive and before long you’ll be asking yourself why all language classes don’t work this way.

Powerpoint 2000

Powerpoint is a program designed for making visual presentations to an audience. It was designed by a UC Berkeley graduate student named Bob Gaskins back in the early 1980s, and has since grown by leaps and bounds to become one of the most widely used presentation software programs by businesses, schools, and even governments around the world. Different versions of Powerpoint have been made for both the Apple and the PC, produced by its vendor Microsoft. Powerpoint 2000 is the version released in conjunction with the Microsoft Office 2000 package, and is designed to word on a Windows operating system platform.

Powerpoint 2000 offered a number of steps forward from its previous versions. In the 2000 version, it became easier to access recently used documents using the 'Open File' selection. A history of the last 20 to 50 documents used is readily available with just a click, reducing the amount of time spent searching through folders for the desired file. The copy and paste function was enhanced as well, allowing up to 12 items to be stored on a 'clipboard' that could be accessed later using any of the Microsoft Office 2000 programs.

The Powerpoint 2000 version also had a number of advances in its presentation design features as well. The Office Assistant feature was enhanced, taking up less screen space and generally being a little less obnoxious than the previous versions. It also was updated with a host of new tips, and advice to offer learning users of the program guidance in using its less obvious functions. The newer assistant also offers direct links to the internet, should your questions go unanswered. Many critics still find the assistant to be more annoying than helpful, but not to worry; it can be easily disabled if you find it too distracting.

The 2000 version of Powerpoint offered a host of other advances over previous versions, including and 'auto-fit' text function, better viewing options, graphical bullets, support for using numbered lists, a more advanced voice narration feature, some new design and content templates, and a more in depth tutorial for new users of the program. Powerpoint 2000 also offers an updated clip art gallery, more graphics and objects to use, better scanner support and the ability to use animated GIF files in your presentation.

Even though there have since been several newer versions of the program, the advances of Powerpoint 2000 was a significant benchmark for the series, and is still widely used around the world today.

Data Recovery Utility

No one wants data loss, but of all the internet wired people I know, I have yet to meet one who has not, at some point, lost important data. This is inevitable, and has nothing to do with the electronic age in particular. Think about it. Haven't you ever lost a notebook for school, or perhaps a paper that you had to turn in? No matter what form our data takes, we will have to face the possibility of losing it. Fortunately computers, unlike other mediums, provide us with data recovery utilities to cope with these disasters.

The best data recovery utility is one which prevents data loss before it happens by providing a backup copy. Really, any kind of file backup system can be considered a data recovery utility. There are many different forms of backup, which vary in complexity, reliability, physical location, and expense. The simplest data recovery utility is making a physical backup of important files. This can be done with a flash drive, which can then be carried with you, or put in a safe place. This has the advantage of portability, but isn't really all that reliable of a data recovery utility.

A better idea is to backup on a physical hard drive. There are data recovery utilities called raid systems, which will automatically create an identical copy of your hard drive as you go along. This is great, because if one hard drive fails, you will still have all of your files on the other hard drive. Another kind of data recovery utility is an off-site backup. This means that your computer logs into a server and uploads encrypted copies of its data on a nightly basis. The data is secured and protected on that remote system. This has the advantage that if something were to happen to your building – say a fire, or an earthquake or other natural disaster, there would still be a perfect copy of your data existing elsewhere.

Of course, once you physically lose your data, you can still find a data recovery utility to use, but your chances of success are much lower. There is data recovery utility software which will search a damaged hard drive, or the fragments of an accidentally erased file, and will sometimes, at least partially, be able to recover what you have lost. Still, this kind of data recovery utility only has a moderate success rate at best, so you would do better to take adequate precaution to not lose your data in the first place.

Classroom Management Software

When I thought about being a teacher, I thought that the most difficult thing about it would be learning how to explain the materials, to always have them on the tip of my tongue and be responsive to any concerns that my students might have about the materials. This was true in my background, which was tutoring, where there was only one student at any time, and you had to tailor your class specifically to fit his needs. But In the modern school classroom, it is a whole other ball game, as they say. It isn't the teaching part that is hard about being a teacher, as strange as that may sound. It is the classroom management.

Students act up. They love to test you, and they do it at every chance that they get. This is especially true teaching eight graders, which is what I do. They haven't started to grow up at all, like they will in high school, but where they are they think that they're the top of the totem pole. Boy will ninth be a surprise for them. But in the mean time, I have to use every classroom management skill at my disposal.

There are classroom management programs, seminars, and online tools and many of these are useful, because they teach you step by step how to deal with specific behavior problems. Many people believe that just having teaching experience is enough, that they will learn classroom management skills by using them, but this simply isn't true. The teacher isn't just trying to manage the students. The students are trying to manage the teacher. If you let them, they will establish themselves in power before you have the chance to so much as lay down the ground rules. This is why good training in classroom management is so essential.

One classroom management course I took used this method. They advised to never let the kids say “I can't” or “I couldn't”. Instead, they have to say “I chose to”. So, they can't say that they couldn't do their homework last night, or that they couldn't finish their papers on time, but rather that they chose not to do their homework or complete their papers. This not only stops you from getting into arguments with the students and wasting precious class time, but also teaches them that they have to take responsibility for their own actions, a life lesson every bit as important as the other things they will learn in school.

Anti Virus Check

How did we ever survive without our computers. It's almost inconceivable to think that we didn't hardly need these daily helpers in our homes a decade ago. Like coffee, computers seem to be one of those things that you can't live without once you've tried them. Our PCs and Macs aid us on an incomparable level these days, and we certainly don't want to return to the old ways. While these phenomenal machines continuously provide us with access to the world, we have to keep a close eye on them to ensure their safety. After all, computer viruses are always updating like our handy machines.

Now days it is always wise to do an anti virus check on your computer regularly. Those nasty little bugs will crawl into your hard drive and take up residence with no plans of leaving. They will destroy your system from the inside out. Fortunately we don't have to allow this. There are a number of software options at you disposal in order to do an anti virus check. This way you can scan your computer completely for any unwanted predators. The anti virus check will not only locate the viruses, but also contain them so you can further delete them from existence. If you've never had a virus in your computer, consider yourself lucky, because it can ruin everything.

I first delved into the world of anti virus software when my PC went on the fritz a few years back. I couldn't understand what the darn thing was doing. It was virtually nonfunctional in every way. It drove me insane. All I needed was to complete a mid-term, but the computer wouldn't allow it. After going berserk, I call my brother who is a computer technician. He smirked and told me that I probably had a virus. He asked if I had tried an anti virus check. Before I new it, he had located the virus and was trying to contain it. This will basically keep it separate from your computer, then hopefully it can be completely removed.

Computer viruses are all over the place. Probably the most likely source of infection is your own email. You always have to be careful what you open. It could be a virus. Luckily many of our email service providers have a standard anti virus check as part of there program. This way the email will be scanned before you open any downloads. If you think your computer may be infected with a virus, check and see if you already have anti virus software installed. If you do, run a standard anti virus check. You can set these to run as often as you like. This way you ensure your computer of avoiding all viruses.

Adobe Photoshop Software

As an aspiring digital photographer, I’ve always enjoyed uploading my photos to my computer and playing around with them in photo editing software. I’ve found that I can make my good photos even better, and often times I can salvage a boring, hum-drum photo into something that’s really worthwhile. There are a lot of different photo editing software suites out there, from the ultra-basic programs bundled with Microsoft Windows to professional-level software programs running hundreds or even thousands of dollars. Though there are a lot of options, Adobe Photoshop software has become the standard for many photographers, both amateur and professional, for good reason.

Though it’s sometimes tough to keep track of all of the different versions of Adobe Photoshop software (there have been more than ten), all of them share some of the same characteristics. This is especially true after Photoshop 7, since most later generations of the software have focused mainly on fine-tuning the software suite without introducing any major, earth-shattering changes. One of the key aspects of Adobe Photoshop software is that Photoshop makes it quick and easy to take care of most of the common tasks people want their photo editing software to do. Cropping a photo takes a couple seconds, as does adjusting the light levels, brightness, or contrast within a photo. Even my parents, who describe themselves as being inept with computer software on the whole, manage to crop and adjust their photos quickly and easily. They’re also fond of the different filters or effects Photoshop can apply to photos, from lithograph effects to embossing to solarization, almost any visual effect is only a couple clicks away.

Though many other photo editing programs make simple photo manipulation easy, what really sets Adobe Photoshop software apart from other photo editing programs is the ease of using its more advanced features. Selective color allows the user to home in on one particular color range, be it blues, greens, yellows, etc., and adjust its relative intensity. Editing levels, saturation, and even color curves is also a snap, and Photoshop renders the colors of photos so well it’s often nearly impossible to tell that the photo has been altered when comparing shots before and after editing, aside from the fact that the “after” photo is usually sharper, better balanced, and more colorful.

Though Adobe Photoshop software is usually expensive, especially for the most recent version, past versions of the software can usually be tracked down for a reasonable price. Whatever it costs, Photoshop’s cost can be easily justified when looking at the great photos it eventually produces.

Design Software

Design software has come a long way into entering mainstream use among computer users. As recently as five years ago, design software was something only really used by graphic artists or engineers. It was essential for people in these professions to use design software in order to properly perform the duties of their job. Today, as the general population has become much more technologically adept, the use of design software is much more common. While most people do not necessarily require design software, many people will use it for small projects around the home in order to better plan out what they are doing.

The use of design software among most people, however, is still at a very primitive stage. The majority of design software is still targeted at advanced users with high demands. Despite that, many people are now using design software for much more simple projects, and not even coming close to using the full potential of the design software. It will be interesting to watch these types of users eventually learn some of the more advanced features the design software that they are using. If this is the case, then the market for design software will become much bigger to meet the increasing demand.

Free Anti Virus Software

For anyone who is willing to spend a few minutes searching online, there is lots of free anti virus software available. The only real advantage of free anti virus software is obviously the price of it. It is foolish not to have any anti virus software, and having at least a free anti virus software on your computer is better than nothing. However, the quality of any free anti virus software is something that should be looked at with great detail. Logically, a company offering free anti virus software does not have the funds or the motivation to keep it as up to date as the big name, expensive software packages. For this reason, I would approach any free anti virus software package with hesitation.

As well, if someone is providing a free anti virus software, you cannot help but question their motivation. Is the free anti virus software going to be bundled with other products that you will have to pay for? If that is the case, is it still worthwhile to get that free anti virus software? Perhaps the free anti virus software has spyware included, and it intended to keep track of what you do on your computer. This may not be a problem for some people, but others may find it an invasion of their privacy. However, I am sure there are some free anti virus software providers that have strictly good intentions and offer the best free anti virus software that they can.

Photo Software

Photo software used to be something that was only really used by professional photographers. The average person who would occasionally take pictures would not even consider getting photo software to touch up their pictures as the cost was far too high. The recent increase in use of digital cameras has changed this as almost everyone now has some form of photo software. When you purchase even the most basic digital camera, you will get an accompanying photo software that will allow to transfer all your digital pictures onto your computer. The more expensive that your digital camera is, the more advanced your photo software will be. Some photo software packages that a come with popular cameras will provide such features as an electronic photo album, and basic touch up methods.

For more serious photographers, more advanced photo software can now be purchased for a reasonable price. Even for an amateur photographer, a fairly sophisticated photo software package can be obtained within a modest budget. The more expensive photo software packages will give more capabilities in terms of improving your photos on the computer. Good photo software will let make several changes, sometimes rendering the original photo unrecognizable. The average photographer, however, does not need these features from their photo software, as they will mostly be doing simple touch up procedures like removing red eyes or combining different pictures into a panorama shot. Nonetheless, as photo software becomes more advanced and more affordable, more average photographers will begin to use the extra features.

DVD Burner Software

It has now become commonplace for any high quality new computer to come equipped with a DVD burner, and the accompanying DVD burner software. As was the case with CD burners only a few years ago, DVD burner software will soon become commonplace and have a drastic impact on society. DVD burner software will do to the movie industry what CD burners did to the music industry. There is no doubt in my mind that people will soon be using their DVD burner software to illegally copy movies. Instead of paying the $30 to actually buy the movie, they rent it or borrow from a friend and use their DVD burner software to make their own copy having only to pay the cost of the blank DVD.

There are sure to be many consumers that are excited to use their DVD burner software to drastically increase their movie collection for a very low cost. However, movie studios must feel threatened by DVD burner software as it is sure to reduce their sales figures. Apart from the problem that DVD burner software poses to the movie industry, it will surely have a positive impact on many people as well. Currently, most people back up their computer files on CD. With DVD burner software, this will become a task for DVDs which will do the job much more efficiently. The storage capacity of a DVD is about five times that of a CD making backing up files with DVD burner software a much easier task.

Tax Software

The past 10 years has seen the number of people who do their own taxes increase exponentially. This is largely due to the many different tax software packages that are now available. With the proper tax software, almost anyone can input their information. Tax software is designed to make the process of doing your taxes dummy proof. All the user has to do is gather all of their tax information and input it into the tax software as you are prompted to do so. Once everything is inputted, the tax software will generate your completed tax return in the best way possible.

However, tax software is not for everyone. Tax software is designed for the average person who has a fairly simple tax return. For individuals who may own their own business and have complicated tax issues may not want to use tax software unless they already have a good understanding of how to file their own taxes. Otherwise, it may be a better idea to hire a professional accountant who has the expertise to file your tax return. Although the initial cost of this may be higher, it could still be worthwhile to prevent future hassles in case you make an error with your tax software. Furthermore, an accountant is more likely to do a better job and increase the size of your tax rebate than would be the case with tax software.

Spy Software

One of the largest areas of the software industry is currently the spy software segment. Spy software can come in many different forms and serve several different purposes. The most common users of spy software are companies that want to track the production levels of their employees. To do this, spy software can keep track of how many keystrokes a person makes, track what websites someone goes to when they are at work, or monitor what emails they are sending. Although this type of spy software is commonly used in today’s society, many employees are unaware that spy software is being used to actually track their productivity. In the few cases where workers are aware of the use of spy software in their company, a negative reaction often ensues based on the lack of trust exhibited by management.

A more recent form of spy software has been recently renamed ‘spyware’. This type of spy software is piggybacked onto certain programs that are commonly downloaded online by recreational users. The spy software then installs itself on your system and will track the various activities that are performed on that computer. The main purpose of this form of spy software is to gather marketing information about people’s habits on their computer. However, some programmers of spy software use it for much more malicious purposes and will sometimes steal work that has been done on your computer. These unfortunate uses of spy software are inevitable and will surely continue to evolve in the future.
